The government of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is harassing and intimidating the families of activists in the United States, targeting at least four families since August, a coalition of human rights groups said Friday.

An Egyptian student at the Central European University in Vienna has been arbitrarily detained in Egypt, with his family fearing for his safety after he accused local security forces of torturing and beating him.

Egyptian security forces have raided the homes of Egyptian-American activist Mohamed Soltan’s relatives and arrested two of his cousins in what his US-based advocacy group Freedom Initiative described as a “campaign of retaliatory aggression.”
