Egyptian, Chinese FMs call for advancing bilateral cooperation

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi called for advancing bilateral cooperation to wider horizons in the next period, especially in light of the distinct and historical relations between the two countries.

This call came during a meeting that brought together the two top diplomats on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid on Sunday.

Shoukry greeted Wang on the 73rd anniversary of founding the People’s Republic of China, which will be observed in early October, the spokesman added.

The two foreign ministers commended the great momentum in Egyptian-Chinese ties and the distinguished follow-up to the results of the “strategic dialogue” that was held in January 2020, in light of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, the spokesman noted.

The pair exchanged views on the most important regional and international issues of common concern, as well as strengthening the existing bilateral coordination at international forums.

The two top diplomats agreed to continue bilateral coordination, with a view to enhancing regional and international peace and security, amid the ongoing international challenges, notably the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, climate change and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam issue.
